Created in 1995, the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment (INRAPE) is a public institution of scientific and technical nature under the technical authority of the Ministry (s) of trusteeship. For the purposes of this law, the term Agriculture includes both Agriculture, Livestock, Forest and Water Its mission is to monitor the sanitary and phytosanitary state of national production against pests: territorial surveillance and pest control resorting to modern plant protection techniques.
The following country report begins with an overview of coastal livelihoods in Comoros, which provides a concise overview of the seven sector reports and the findings of the in-country and regional consultants. This overview ends with a conclusion which summarizes the collected information as it relates to the coastal zone in Comoros in general. This overview is followed by the more detailed sector reports, which represent the original contributions by the in-country and regional consultants.
Data and information for this report was compiled by Engagement Communautaire pour Developpement Durable (ECDD); Bristol Conservation and Science Foundation’s (BCSF) with support from BirdLife International project in the Comoros working in partnership with Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (Durrell).
Given the importance of the marine ecosystem, the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) countries with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) participated in the implementation of the Agulhas and Somali Current Large Marine Ecosystem (ASCLME) project. This project involved generation of data and information that can be used for the protection and sustainable management of coastal and marine resources of the WIO sub region.
Les Comores constituent un archipel de l’Océan Indien, composé de quatre îles situées entre Madagascar et la Côte Est du continent Africain ; il s’agit de la Grande Comore(Ngazidja), Anjouan(Ndzouani), de Mohéli (Moili) et de Mayotte (Maoré). Pour l’ensemble, la superficie est estimée à 2237 Km² et la population à quelques 700 000 habitants.
