Marine Spatial Planning
This workshop aims to strengthen Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) across the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region, specifically focusing on Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, Mauritius, Madagascar and Comoros. The goal is to integrate national-level data and the Symphony planning tool into the management of marine resources and human activities, emphasizing conflict resolution, sustainability, and conservation for the blue economy.
Given the coastal and environmental opportunities and challenge facing the Western Indian Ocean (WIO), it makes sense to better integrate existing legal and management tools, and look for creative and novel solutions to existing problems (UNEP-Nairobi Convention & WIOMSA 2015). Economic activities that takes place in the ocean space, receives goods and services from ocean activities and ocean activity (to the ocean) has been recognised as a major contributor to national economies (Park et al. 2014).

Many marine reef fish species have two distinct life stages: a larval pelagic stage lasting a few weeks followed by a benthic stage after recruitment (Dufour, 1992; Shima, 2001; McCormick et al., 2002; Lecchini & Galzin, 2003; Irisson et al., 2004). Larvae dispersal is a vital process for species evolution, genetic mixing and overall adaptation of reef fish populations (Caley et al., 1996; Shulman, 1998; Planes, 2002).
