Mainstreaming of Environmental Flows into Integrated Water Resources Management
The Nairobi Convention in executing the project on ‘Implementing the Strategic Action Programme for the protection of the Western Indian Ocean from land-based sources and activities’ (WIOSAP) is organizing a workshop for managers and policy-makers on mainstreaming of Environmental Flows (E-Flows) into Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) to be held 18-20 September 2019 in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Environmental Flows workshop will discuss the mainstreaming of E-Flows in Integrated Water Resource Management in the region to promote understanding; (i) Ecosystem goods and services provided by river basins, (ii) Link between upstream river basin processes and the downstream coastal and marine environment, (iii) Contemporary drivers of change facing river basins in the region, (iv) Necessary policy/legal/institutional frameworks for river flows management in the region, (v) Participatory negotiation of objectives for river and estuarine ecosystem management and (vi) Development of managerial and technical capacity in E-Flows.
